| The round commenced on Wednesday night, with a thriller at the State Sports Centre. Cairns, looking to keep in touch with the league leaders, made the early front-running; but the Razorbacks came storming home to hit the lead in the last quarter and take out a 2-point victory. It was the start of a disastrous weekend for the North Queensland teams, with the Taipans to lose again to competition newcomers Gold Coast, a result that saw the Blaze storm into contention. Meanwhile, Townsville were never in the hunt after being blown away by a Mark Worthington inspired Sydney Kings and then being defeated in a low-scoring slog by Melbourne Tigers the next night. After a promising start to the season, Brisbane are in serious danger of losing touch with the ladder leaders after the Bullets were defeated by New Zealand; the Breakers again proving themselves capable in the close contents with their second one-point victory at home this season. Adelaide 36s snapped out of their 5-match losing streak when they hosted the New Zealand Breakers on Saturday. In a low-scoring and uninspiring contest, the 36s finally recorded an 87-70 victory. The even nature of the competition was underlined on Sunday, when bottom 2 sides South Dragons and Singapore both recorded victories. In an even contest at Vodafone, the lead see-sawed all day between South Dragons and Wollongong before the locals steadied at the end to take the points. And it was all one-way traffic at Singapore Indoor Stadium, with the embattled Slingers ending their losing streak with an easy win over Perth Wildcats.
