Match 2 in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series was to be a disappointing wash-out. The start was delayed
till 3pm due to rain; and once play started it didn't take long for the New Zealanders to crash to 3/12. In
the damp and windy conditions, Brett Lee and Nathan Bracken were getting plenty of swing to worry
the batsmen.
Styris and Taylor had begun to repair the innings, building the score up from 3/12 to 3/30 in quick time
before the rain returned; and play would not restart. The drawn result gives New Zealand some hope of
retaining the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy, should they defeat Australia in the last match of the series in
Hobart on Thursday.
